Penguins In Oban?
The Scottish harbour town of Oban, famous for its ferry links to the Hebridean islands - particularly Mull, Is also now quite prolific for its flock of Black Guillemots which nest within the harbour walls. They are obviously quite used to the presence of people and will happily sit on the sea wall close to where people are walking. The Guillemot is quite common among sea bird colonies around the UK but the Black Guillemot variant is a lot harder to spot. They are all black apart from some white patches on the wings and their bright red feet. They have even been mistaken for Penguins by the general public!
After a trip to Mull, I arrived on the ferry into Oban and decided to see if I could see these funky little seabirds before setting off back to Yorkshire. This is a collection of images from a nice hour spent photographing them. Stunning birds!
